During my Final year at Kingston school of Art, we were tasked with making a short film in tune with a filmmaking movement/style. My film The Parents and Their Children, is a Dogme 95 short film. Dogme 95’s overriding principle is immersive realism, I decided to base the film on a personal expiereince. The script was a pleasure to work on and I loved the challenge of working with actors from all age ranges, managing the logistical challenges that entails. It was a fun challenge to make sure I followed the strict rules of Dogme 95. The constraints provoked us to be more creative and it only benefited the final product. Directing, writing and editing under those constraints and with child actors is an expiereince I’ll never forget. I couldn’t be prouder of the final product.
