On the 20th of January we submitted our final cut of the 1o minute documentary for the external client project.

Over the course of the project, I was involved thoroughly throughout, I was the assistant director and editor of the film, during the days we were filming In our flat and at the families outside Edinburgh office I often took leads and directed the camera and also worked closely with the charity workers and actors trying to. create the best possible film and filming environment, the edit was a long one with some bumps in the roads I worked tirelessly over the course of just over a month editing and weaving a story out of what we filmed.
I improved on my shot composition; throughout the film I told our camera operator to only use static shots, and we framed all the shots the same this meant when we came to edit everything smoothed itself into place. Creatively when it came to editing I was able to weave an engaging story throughout the 10 minutes by intercutting the interviews this left the audience engaged as we never gave the full story until the end. During development, production and post I was always involved trying to work with my fellow classmates. My phone was always on and due to editing over the Christmas break We had to communicate that way which I was very good at.

During this process I learned that for where I want to be I have to be involved in everything, To make it you need to have intention it was also reinforced the idea that filmmaking is cooperative and when people aren’t pulling there weight the sink ships but that’s a reality of filmmaking, Next time if I was to be given this opportunity again I would direct as I wasn’t the director my vision wasn’t instilled from the outset but when it came down to it when I had to take the reins I was re painting there ideas but still within their frame.
